Do you remember when it was not only okay to take a nap in the middle of the day, it was pretty much a requirement of your schedule? I have vague memories of kindergarten, Mrs.
Flutey's class. After lunch, they would roll out the big gymnastic mat and we would all lay down with our blankets. No real specifics on where we were supposed to lay, but the rule was that we couldn't be within arms reach of another person. No fancy individual little cots for my kindergarten years. I remember at the time, thinking it was the worst part of the day. I wanted to be playing, coloring, or more realistically, talking to my friends. But the grown ups insisted, and so we napped. These days, I find myself in the role of nap enforcer as opposed to the nap
avoider.

And as the little man protests, telling my how boring naps are, I insist. Eventually, he conks out. It's then I realize, now is my chance. Please excuse me as I go relive some of my glory years and take a nap.
