Reality Set In PLUS a Musical Interlude

The little man woke up today and greeted the morning much like I normally do. I'm not exactly Miss Suzy Sunshine in the AM, and the little man seemed to feel the same animosity I often do towards having to wake up and leave a cozy, comfy bed. A recap of our conversation is below, held while the little man was very angrily getting dressed for the day:

Me: Why are you being so grizzly this morning?
Little Man: I don't want to go to school. It's too early, I'm still tired and I'm not happy.
Me: But you like school. It will be fun.
Little Man: NO IT WON'T! I need a break.
Me: Now buddy, it's only your seventh day of school. You can't be done already. And you do have breaks, on the weekends.
Little Man: But that's only 2 days off! I need more! And I am done!
Me (thinking I have this in the bag because a holiday 3 day weekend is coming up): You know what, little man? Next weekend, you can take 3 days off - Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Little Man: 3 days? That's nothing! I need a real break, like 10 days. Or 9 days. Or 14 days.

After only a week and a half, the little man is clearly very unhappy with the standard work week schedule. I feel you little man, I feel you.

As for my girl, she is busy learning new and exciting songs in music class for what will undoubtedly be a part of this year's fantastical music production. Prepare your eardrums for the awesomeness that is my girl singing and admire her rocking dance moves.

Things I Like Thursdays

I like that "kiddo talent shows" have become a fairly regular occurrence in our little house.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Last night was my girls school musical production. I could try and be funny, I could try to build suspense before I told you how it went, but that would be mean. And pointless, really, because you all know my girl is a ROCKSTAR!!!

From the Queen worthy waves she was tossing off from her red carpet entrance, to her riveting portrayal of Speaker #10... she nailed it all. A born performer, that little one. And I really don't know where she gets it from, being that her dad and I are such shy, retiring types.

Of course the little man got the seat with the best view.

After her performance, the little star had adoring fans to contend with.

And just in case you aren't satisfied with the photos, me being the stalkerific mom I am, of course I got some video. Because I'm nice, I'll go ahead and warn you now that the beginning is a little shaky. It gets better by about the .47 mark, but not by much. If you're prone to motion sickness, make sure you set up a spot on the horizon you can glance at if you start to feel queasy before you hit play.

Things I Like Thursday

I am so very thankful that I remembered to grab the camera before my girl's musical performance last night.

You will be, too.

First Impressions

Today is my sister Doe's first day of work in Dallas, and while I know she has it more than under control, I just thought I would share the kiddos thoughts on how she should greet her new team.

Hmmm, maybe not. On second thought, a simple "Hello" might be more appropriate. You should probably save the crazy for at least week 2.

Look Out, Military, Here I Come

In honor of this post, the little man has something he wants to share. And before you watch, I'll go ahead and apologize in advance for what he does around the 35 second mark. As he told me when he was done, sometimes you just can't help it.

Yesterday, I took my oath and was sworn in as a member of the United States Air Force Reserve. Most of you who read this know it was in the works, but for those of you who didn't, I'm not kidding. I'm really in the armed forces. And, yes, despite this post title, I'm pretty sure the military is more ready for me than I am for it, but I have until September when I leave for basic to pull it all together. Wish me luck.

Concentration

Next time you really need to focus on something, try sticking your tongue out. It seems to help the little man.

Things I Like Thursday

I like to dance, and so do the kiddos. They've got rhythm. They've got skills. I'm thinking they might have the most awesome moves I've ever seen.

Or maybe not. But it sure makes this mama proud when I see them shaking what I gave them.

And before you watch, a few notes on the below:
1. Yes, we are still working on the whole 'right/left' concept with the little man.
2. My girl is pretty fierce
3. Under no circumstances should these moves be recreated. Like in a bar. In New York City. On New Year's Eve.
Yes, Sam, I am talking to you.

Now that I have that out of the way, enjoy.

Things I Like Thursdays

I have talked before about how I really like picking my girl up from school. Sometimes, I get there early. Oh, okay, twice I have gotten there early, but that isn't the point. The point is, when I do get there early, I have to wait. And I really, really like the waiting. Rather, I really, really like the in house entertainment provided during the waiting.

'Things I Like' Thursdays

I decided I was going to use Thursdays as a chance to post about something I liked, something that made me happy. Even at my glummest, there is always something that can make me smile, and I just wanted to remind myself of all the lovely in my life.

When I thought about doing this, an idea immediately came to mind. I really, really like my new lunch companion now that I'm not working.

However, after today's lunch, well... I might need to modify that statement a little. I still really, really like my new lunch companion, but I could do without the noxious fumes that invaded today's lunch. I'll let the little man take it from here.
