Things I Like Thursdays

I like that "kiddo talent shows" have become a fairly regular occurrence in our little house.

Things I Like Thursday

I am so very thankful that I remembered to grab the camera before my girl's musical performance last night.

You will be, too.

Things I Like Thursday

I'm a big fan of to do lists. I think they keep me organized. But sometimes the list is more about keeping track of how far behind I am on things as opposed to how many things I have accomplished. But today, I crossed a off a long overdue item. I know proudly present my plain walls.

Now why would plain walls be exciting? Because I no longer have creepy red paint writing on them from the color I tested back in August, then changed my mind about, but not before I wrote "I Love the Kiddos" to be funny. And you know what? It wasn't funny. It was creepy. And even after all these months, it still scared me when I caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye, half asleep, in the middle of the night.

So today, I am thankful for crossing things off my to do list. And clean walls. And a good night's sleep in a room that doesn't look like part of a horror movie set.

Things I Like Thursday

I have long been a fan of self tanners. Well, let me rephrase that. I've spent my share of days with an unfortunate orange tint to my skin, but when you can find a good one, I'm a fan of a good self tanner. Lately, I've been trying to take better care of my skin. And in my attempts to take care of and protect my skin, my tan has faded. I don't like the way I look pale. My pale is not the beautiful porcelain pale some have. Mine is the translucent, see my blue veins, I look ill kind of pale. Thus, the self tanner has made an appearance in my skin care regime. I tried for the first time last night, and am quite happy with the results. I'm not neon, my palms look normal and I can't see my veins as much as I could yesterday. When I was applying, I took special care to make sure I got everywhere. I didn't want to be streaky. Ears, behind the neck, tops of the feet. I was quite impressed with my thoroughness. Then today, in the bright morning light of my bathroom, I noticed. Either I have had a new birthmark miraculously appear on my foot overnight, or I need to get a little better when I'm 'tanning' my feet.

I like to dance, and so do the kiddos. They've got rhythm. They've got skills. I'm thinking they might have the most awesome moves I've ever seen.

Or maybe not. But it sure makes this mama proud when I see them shaking what I gave them.

And before you watch, a few notes on the below:
1. Yes, we are still working on the whole 'right/left' concept with the little man.
2. My girl is pretty fierce
3. Under no circumstances should these moves be recreated. Like in a bar. In New York City. On New Year's Eve.
Yes, Sam, I am talking to you.

Now that I have that out of the way, enjoy.

Things I Like Thursdays

You know how sometimes, you're going through old photos, and you stumble across a great one? One that caught a moment that you had forgotten about until you saw the photo? One that makes you feel the love of the people in it as though they were still standing just across the camera lens from you?

I love finding photos like that.

Things I Like Thursdays

I have talked before about how I really like picking my girl up from school. Sometimes, I get there early. Oh, okay, twice I have gotten there early, but that isn't the point. The point is, when I do get there early, I have to wait. And I really, really like the waiting. Rather, I really, really like the in house entertainment provided during the waiting.

Things I Like Thursdays

I know I shouldn't. I know it's bad for you. I know it can strip the corrosion off of a car battery. But I can't help it. I like Coke.

For a reason most of you know, I have been on an extremely restricted diet for the last two weeks. I am not normally what I would call obsessed with food, but after the first week, glorious junk food was all I could think about. I dreamed about tall, icy glasses full of Coca Cola. But I stayed strong and resisted the temptations. As of yesterday at 1.34pm, however, all bets were off and I could feed my obsession. I won't tell you how many glasses I have had since then as it might cause you to worry for my health, but for today at least, let the Coca Cola flow.

Things I Like Thursdays

This is the first time as an adult (yes, even I laugh at referring to myself as an adult) that I have lived near enough to my family to see them on a regular basis. And I have to say... I like it. It helps that my family is a pretty weird bunch, and you're always guaranteed a laugh.

Yeah, most of the time it's probably laughing at somebody as opposed to with them, but whatever. It's how we roll. See, I may sort of kind of be an adult, but I'm still cool. Right?

Kissy? Sam?

Someone help me out here.

Oh, forget about it. I'm going to go watch an infomercial.

Things I Like Thursday

This 'Things I Like Thursday' is brought to you by the number 13. It gets a bad rap, that number, long determined to be an unlucky number. But when the little man, who happens to be working with that number this week at school, comes home sporting number 13 head wear, I can't help but likey.

Things I Like Thursdays

Okay, now this might not seem that likable to you, but for me, well, it definitely deserves a mention. I now proudly present... wait for it...my fully functioning garage door.

About a year ago, someone who shall remain nameless (his name reminds with mavin) pulled a little too far into my driveway and dinged the garage door a little bit. At first, I didn't even really notice, but over time, it started to pull the door of it's track. The terrible noise it made as it was trying to open and close with wheels off the track had gotten progressively louder and louder until yesterday, when it pretty much just stopped working. You can imagine how that might have been a problem as little Alice was inside. Alice is my car, in case you were wondering. My girl is not named Alice and even if she was, I wouldn't keep her in the garage. Well, unless she was throwing a fit in the car, refusing to get out, then I would walk inside and leave her there. But don't worry, my girl can work all the doors to get out on her own. Little Alice is not so lucky.

I called the number stickered onto my garage door and the tech was able to come out this morning and fix the track, so we can now come and go as we please. Alice and I are both relieved.

So this Thursday, I 'like' three things.

1. The little neon yellow label the garage door installer stuck on my door at install, insuring that when it broke, I would stand a pretty good chance of noticing the eye blinding sticker and call for help.
2. Pablo, the tech who actually came out same day and fixed my door.
3. The door itself, for hanging with us for so long.

Get it?

Hanging?

Cause it's a door?

Right, I think I'll go sit in my garage for a little longer. Alice thinks I'm funny.

This one needs no explanation. It is one of my favorite parts of the day.

Oh, my, how I love that girl.

'Things I Like' Thursdays

I decided I was going to use Thursdays as a chance to post about something I liked, something that made me happy. Even at my glummest, there is always something that can make me smile, and I just wanted to remind myself of all the lovely in my life.

When I thought about doing this, an idea immediately came to mind. I really, really like my new lunch companion now that I'm not working.

However, after today's lunch, well... I might need to modify that statement a little. I still really, really like my new lunch companion, but I could do without the noxious fumes that invaded today's lunch. I'll let the little man take it from here.
